VEHICLE EXTRICATION

We do a little more then come to your home for first aid calls. We do vehicle extrication too!

What is Vehicle Extrication? It's the process of removing the vehicle from around a person that has been involved in a motor vehicle accident, when conventional means of exit are impossible or unadvisable. A delicate approach is needed to minimize injury to the victim during the extrication. This operation is typically accomplished by utilizing chocks (2 by 2 wooden blocks) and bracing for stabilization and hydraulic tools, including the Jaws of Life.

Each Spring and Summer, many of our members take part in Vehicle Extrication classes. Some of these classes are held in Covington, while some are held in other areas within District 1. Most of the time, our own Greg Burton serves as instructor for these classes.

Seasoned members train with younger members teaching them the newest and some old school tricks as well as rope knots, inspecting and learning to operate each piece of equipment. As well as placement on our extrication truck, Unit 39.

Here are a few photos of our members and other squads from District 1 taking a refresher course as others are learning for the first time.
